The Carro Armato ("armored vehicle" in Italian) were the bulk of Italy's armored fighting force, with eight out of ten of Italy's tanks falling under this designation (the L3/33 and L3/35 tanks were designated "Carro Veloce", or "fast tank"). Depending on the class of the tank, a different letter would be assigned for each model; an "L" for light tanks, an "M" for medium tanks, and a "P" for heavy tanks.
