The 4th Infantry Division was under Lieutenant General Joseph Sheridan's command during the attack on Utah Beach and subsequent capture of both Valognes and Cherbourg.
History[]
The 4th landed at Utah Beach and suffered heavy casualties and later took out two Flak 88mm and a four artillery at Brecourt Manor. They then launched an attack on Valognes alongside the Army Air Force. They later defended against German forces sent from Cherbourg while trying to take the town.
