The Laffly W15 was hastily produced to meet the German invasion of France in 1940, and was only produced in small number. In-game, it provides cheap anti-tank support against blitzkrieg tactics. Surprisingly, it has better armor penetration than fixed artillery, such as the AT 25mm and the AT 47mm, which is a favourite to tank commanders. However, upgrading the Laffly W15 to the Lorraine is crucial later on in the game.
History
The Laffly W15 TCC (TCC for Tank-Hunter Tank in french) is an improvisation dictated by the urgency of the events of May 1940. The prototype had an armored body which was removed on the production model to speed up production. It was in fact replaced by two armored plates protecting the driver and the shield of the gun was extended on the sides. The idea of installing an anti-tank gun on a vehicle wheel dates back to 1939 and is attributed to the Inspector General tanks Keller. The prototype, made in early 1940 is assessed in March to the polygon of Vincennes and the camp of Mailly again in April in the 1st DCR , where it is entirely satisfactory.
On May 6, setting the series does Laffly W15 TCC is still denied by General Gamelin in particular because of its low protection in connection with her tall figure and his shield, and the consequences of its production on other ongoing programs. On May 17, given the urgency of events, the Staff asks the company to produce Laffly 50 tank destroyers at a rate of five hardware every two days . The W15 TCC are integrated into the BACA at 5 per vehicle battery. Of the 100 materials ordered, 62 have actually occurred and assigned to combat units. Only 70 copies and a prototype were made between 24 May and 17 June 1940. They were used in self-propelled anti-tank batteries (BACA No. 51 to 61) and the 10th Battery of the 305th RA. Although an efficient vehicle, it arrived too late to prevent the French defeat.
